Job Description Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) is seeking candidates for two positions:
an In-Home Specialist and an Investigative and Assessment Specialist.
The successful candidates will join the Child Protective Services (CPS) Unit and a diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all.

This Family Services In-Home Specialist position uses strengths-based and trauma-informed perspectives and evidence-based practices to help families where child abuse or neglect has been substantiated to increase safety and reduce risk of future harm to their children and youth; evaluates purchased services and conducts periodic reviews adhering to all local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
The Family Services Investigative and Assessment Specialist position investigates and assesses child abuse and/or neglect complaints and devises safety and service plans adhering to all local, state, and federal policies, procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities:
Engage families to improve family safety and encourage participation in services to enhance parenting skills and family functioning.
Refer families to appropriate community resources and supportive services Conduct joint investigations with law enforcement in situations alleging child abuse or neglect classified as felony or Class 1 misdemeanor.
Prepare affidavits and testify in court.
Devise goal directed service plans.
Assess family and community protective and risk factors.
Coordinate and participate in family team meetings to address family crises and service needs utilizing a collaborative approach.
Collaborate with community partners.
Advocate for and referring families to appropriate community resources and supportive services.
Monitor and evaluate purchased services.
Complete required home visits, collateral contacts, and documentation within the mandated timeframes.
Assist in emergency situations as needed.
Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and outside trainings for professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned to resolve child safety issues and improve outcomes in families.
The CPS Family Services Specialist should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of child protection laws, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge of family dynamics and functioning and human development.
Knowledge of evidence-based practices in child welfare.
Abilities to engage, interview, assess, counsel, and refer clients.
Abilities to assess child safety and risk using program specific tools.
Ability to think critically in crisis to mitigate risky family situations.
Ability to respond to complex family crisis situations.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet mandated timeframes and shifting priorities.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written for engaging, interviewing, assessing, testifying, and documenting case records.

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word software.
This position may be filled at the Child Protective Services Specialist (CPS) (entry level) with a hiring range of $51,542.

04 salary commensurate with experience and position level.
A CPS entry level position requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or directly related discipline and one (1) year post-bachelor's degree professional child welfare or human/social services experience.
HIRING RANGE:
$57,146.
64-$77,147.
96, COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE.
Job Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or directly related discipline and three (3) years' post-bachelor's degree professional child welfare or human/social services experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field or directly related discipline Fluency in English and Spanish Successful candidates will possess a valid resident driver's license and undergo a driving record, child protective services, and criminal background checks.
